Spirit Buddies

Each family may decide if they want their child to participate in Spirit Buddies. It is not mandatory that you participate, but it is a fun activity for the children.

At the beginning of the season, each child will be paired with another child similar in age as their Spirit Buddy. We will have a special Spirit Buddy introduction party before the first swim meet. Kids can cheer on their Spirit Buddy during the meets and practices. They can offer congratulations and encouragement to each other during donuts and ribbons.

On Thursday, just prior to the warm-up session of each meet, the Buddies will exchange small gifts and notes of encouragement to swim their best times during the meet. The gifts should be small with a total dollar value of one-two dollars. The last gift they exchange during Divisionals may be a little larger and include a gift card for an ice cream, etc. Some gift suggestions include:

Energy drinks or juice
Gatorade/Powerade
Snack Crackers
Fruit like apples, banana’s oranges
Gum
Healthy snacks
Small toys
Bubbles
Drinking cup
Squirt guns

Try to limit the amount of candy you give each week to only a couple of pieces. We don’t want the kids getting a sugar rush just before they swim and then having an energy crash.

We want this to be a fun activity for all involved. If your child is not going to be at several meets, please consider not signing them up to be a Spirit Buddy. If you know of a meet that you will not be attending, let the other parent know so they don’t bring a gift and can’t find your child.
